Named after the god of war in Roman mythology. Mars is sometimes nicknamed the red planet because of the reddish appearance given to it by the iron oxide that dominates its surface. It is the first outer planet beyond Earth. It symbolizes the conquering function of trying to go forward, to seek new territories. It represents our inner warrior who desires and goes out to get what he wants, the one who gets “red with anger” and goes out to fight.
